Fort Worth PD Officers Complete Advanced Tactical Training

Community First Project recently partnered with Fort Worth Police Department to deliver an intensive week of tactical training designed to enhance preparedness, coordination, and critical incident response. Participants included members of the Directed Response Unit (DRU)—a SWAT-style team within Fort Worth PD—as well as patrol officers seeking to advance their skill sets and readiness.

Officers trained in both live-fire and simulated environments, refining essential fundamentals such as pistol and rifle marksmanship, weapons transitions, movement under pressure, and clearing techniques. Special emphasis was placed on improving small team tactics in high-stress scenarios, with officers practicing everything from close-quarters room entries to long-hallway movements and multi-floor clearances.

The state-of-the-art Fort Worth training facility provided an ideal environment to push teams through complex and realistic exercises. Officers operated in small units as well as full teams, allowing them to understand how to adapt their approach based on space constraints and available personnel—highlighting that sometimes fewer officers can be more effective in tight environments.

One critical takeaway continues to be the importance of carbine qualifications. Facing a rifle-wielding threat with only a pistol can put officers at a severe disadvantage—an issue Community First Project continues to advocate addressing through comprehensive firearms training.

Realism was further amplified through the use of role players, blank fire, and dynamic scenario planning, helping officers better prepare for the unpredictable nature of real-world threats.

At the core of this course was the mission to make communities safer by ensuring officers are well-trained, decisive, and ready to respond. Feedback from participants emphasized the value of these exercises, with many noting the larger, full-team scenarios as a favorite component.
