Preparing for the Unexpected: Critical Incident Training for Texas Police Departments

With support from the Jorge Pastore Foundation, Community First Project led a week-long critical incident training program in Round Rock, Texas. Officers from four police departments, including Round Rock, Austin, Fort Worth, and Leander, participated in immersive, scenario-based exercises focused on active shooter and other high-stakes situations.

The training placed officers in realistic, high-pressure scenarios that required quick thinking, decisive action, and strong teamwork. Participants practiced tactical decision-making, coordinated responses, and communication strategies while navigating complex, rapidly evolving situations. The exercises emphasized both individual skill development and the importance of operating effectively as a cohesive unit under stress.

Through hands-on, practical experience in critical incident response, officers build confidence and preparedness for real-world emergencies. This initiative highlights the participating departments’ commitment to professional growth and operational readiness. By providing advanced training opportunities, Community First Project equips law enforcement teams with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance officer safety and foster community trust.
